Wise Counsel

Listen from:
Francis Xavorias, counseled John the Third, King of Portugal, to meditate every day a quarter of an hour upon the text,
“What shall it profit a man, if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul?” Mark 8:3636For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? (Mark 8:36),
Such a practice might be profitably adopted by many who only care for the life that now is, and forget that after death is the judgment. (Heb. 9:2727And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: (Hebrews 9:27)).
“As it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: so Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many: and unto them that look for Him, shall He appear the second time without sin, unto salvation.” Hebrews 9:27,2827And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: 28So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. (Hebrews 9:27‑28).
