Ye Are Not Your Own

We are apt to say that what we have is our own, and we can do with it as we please. The Psalmist evidently did not understand it thus, for he said,
“The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.” (Psa. 24:11<<A Psalm of David.>> The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. (Psalm 24:1)).
If we belong to God, what we possess must be His also.
“Honor the Lord with thy substance” (Prov. 3:99Honor the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: (Proverbs 3:9)), is the rule by which we are to determine how to appropriate what we possess.
“Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through and steal; for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matt. 6:20, 2120But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. (Matthew 6:20‑21)).
