We know that-associated with Jesus as we are in the same relationship with the Father, Himself being our life-we shall be like Him when He appears. (1 John 3 by J.N. Darby)
“It doth not yet appear what we shall be.” It has not been seen what we are to be. The apostles saw it for a moment in the transfiguration; but as to the revelation of it, it does not yet appear. (Notes on 1 John 2:28-29 and 3:1-11 by J.N. Darby)
“we shall see Him as He is”—not as He will be, but as He is now in heavenly glory at the right hand of God. The flesh could not see this and subsist. Daniel fell as one dead, and John too, at the appearing of it. (Notes on 1 John 2:28-29 and 3:1-11 by J.N. Darby)
“We shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” That is, in glory as He is at the Father's right hand, and we shall see Him in that way. (Notes on 1 John 2:28-29 and 3:1-11 by J.N. Darby)

Beloved, now are we God’s children, and not yet was it manifesteda what we shall be. Web know that if he should be manifested we shall be like him, because we shall see him even as he is.

WK Translation Notes

a
The RV has corrected "it doth not yet appear" into "it is not yet made manifest," though it does not accord with their claim of precision for the aorist, "it never yet was manifested." Of course actual appearing is meant, not making known by the word to faith, for this is already and clearly made; as the next clause indeed declares, without the copula (but) of the T. R., "We know that, if He shall be manifested, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is."
b
The word "but" before "we" lacks authority.
