1 Kings 20:16
16
And they went out at noon. But Ben-hadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings that helped him. (1 Kings 20:16)
. But Ben-hadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings that helped him.
It is not necessary to associate any idea of splendor with these “pavilions.” They were merely booths, (succoth,) as the word is rendered in
Genesis 33:17
17
And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built him an house, and made booths for his cattle: therefore the name of the place is called Succoth. (Genesis 33:17)
;
Job 27:18
18
He buildeth his house as a moth, and as a booth that the keeper maketh. (Job 27:18)
;
Jonah 4:5
5
So Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city. (Jonah 4:5)
. In
Isaiah 1:8
8
And the daughter of Zion is left as a cottage in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city. (Isaiah 1:8)
, the same word is translated “lodge”; in
Amos 9:11
11
In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old: (Amos 9:11)
