Isaiah 24:13
13
When thus it shall be in the midst of the land among the people, there shall be as the shaking of an olive tree, and as the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done. (Isaiah 24:13)
. As the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done.
The Hebrews were directed not to pick their grapes closely, but to leave a few for the poor. See
Leviticus 19:10
10
And thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every grape of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger: I am the Lord your God. (Leviticus 19:10)
;
Deuteronomy 24:21
21
When thou gatherest the grapes of thy vineyard, thou shalt not glean it afterward: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow. (Deuteronomy 24:21)
. This merciful provision is referred to by Gideon when he represents “the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim” as “better than the vintage of Abi-ezer” (
Judg. 8:2
2
And he said unto them, What have I done now in comparison of you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer? (Judges 8:2)
).
