663. Going Forth to Sow

Matthew 13:3³And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; (Matthew 13:3). Behold, a sower went forth to sow.

See also Mark 4:3³Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow: (Mark 4:3); Luke 8:5⁵A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. (Luke 8:5).

According to Dr. Thomson, this statement is more literally true than would appear to a hasty reader. The farmers in Palestine go forth to sow their seed, the fields being at a considerable distance from their homes, sometimes six or eight miles. See The Land and the Book, vol.1, pp. 115-118.
