Matthew 13:33³³Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened. (Matthew 13:33). The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven.

The usual leaven among the Jews consisted of dough in a high state of fermentation, though the lees of wine were sometimes employed.
