89. The Bowl

The gabia, here rendered “cup,” was more properly a bowl, and was distinguished from the kosoth, or smaller cups, into which the liquid was poured from the gabia. The distinction is made in Jeremiah 35:55And I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites pots full of wine, and cups, and I said unto them, Drink ye wine. (Jeremiah 35:5), where the two words are used.
