(1) Nephew of David (2 Sam. 17:25²⁵And Absalom made Amasa captain of the host instead of Joab: which Amasa was a man's son, whose name was Ithra an Israelite, that went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah Joab's mother. (2 Samuel 17:25)). Rebelled with Absalom, and defeated by Joab (2 Sam. 18:6⁶So the people went out into the field against Israel: and the battle was in the wood of Ephraim; (2 Samuel 18:6)). Reconciled to David (2 Sam. 19:13¹³And say ye to Amasa, Art thou not of my bone, and of my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if thou be not captain of the host before me continually in the room of Joab. (2 Samuel 19:13)), and killed by Joab (2 Sam. 20:10¹⁰But Amasa took no heed to the sword that was in Joab's hand: so he smote him therewith in the fifth rib, and shed out his bowels to the ground, and struck him not again; and he died. So Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri. (2 Samuel 20:10)). (2) A prince of Ephraim (2 Chron. 28:12¹²Then certain of the heads of the children of Ephraim, Azariah the son of Johanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai, stood up against them that came from the war, (2 Chronicles 28:12)).
