Canaan abounded with. Deu. 8:7.

Often ran over pebbles. 1 Sam. 17:40⁴⁰And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine. (1 Samuel 17:40). Job 22:24²⁴Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks. (Job 22:24).

Willows. Lev. 23:40⁴⁰And ye shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and ye shall rejoice before the Lord your God seven days. (Leviticus 23:40). Job 40:22²²The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about. (Job 40:22).

Reeds. Isa. 19:7⁷The paper reeds by the brooks, by the mouth of the brooks, and every thing sown by the brooks, shall wither, be driven away, and be no more. (Isaiah 19:7).

Abounded with fish. Isa. 19:8⁸The fishers also shall mourn, and all they that cast angle into the brooks shall lament, and they that spread nets upon the waters shall languish. (Isaiah 19:8).

Afforded protection to a country. Isa. 19:6⁶And they shall turn the rivers far away; and the brooks of defence shall be emptied and dried up: the reeds and flags shall wither. (Isaiah 19:6).

Of the willows. Isa. 15:7⁷Therefore the abundance they have gotten, and that which they have laid up, shall they carry away to the brook of the willows. (Isaiah 15:7).

ILLUSTRATIVE

Of wisdom. Pro. 18:4⁴The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook. (Proverbs 18:4).

Of temporal abundance. Job 20:17¹⁷He shall not see the rivers, the floods, the brooks of honey and butter. (Job 20:17)

(Deceptive,) of false friends. Job 6:15¹⁵My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, and as the stream of brooks they pass away; (Job 6:15).

(Drinking of, by the way,) of help in distress. Psa. 110:7⁷He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up the head. (Psalm 110:7).
