V.32-44 The insults and cruelties against the Lord do not decline as the crucifixion takes place. Usually men grow silent in moments of death, but not here. In Psalm 69:19-21¹⁹Thou hast known my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonor: mine adversaries are all before thee. ²⁰Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none. ²¹They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. (Psalm 69:19‑21) we read of how He felt inwardly.

V.45-46 So we might not be forsaken (See also Heb. 13:5⁵Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. (Hebrews 13:5)). Read it also in Psalm 22⁵They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded. (Psalm 22:5), written almost a thousand years before.

V.50 His life was yielded up. No man took it from Him.

V.51 Read Hebrews 10:19-20¹⁹Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, ²⁰By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; (Hebrews 10:19‑20).

V.55-56 Faithful women knew God’s thoughts, as we shall see shortly.

V.57-60 Not an apostle, but an unknown rich man does the work of laying the Lord’s body in his own tomb.

V.62-66 The chief priests displayed more knowledge of the resurrection than the disciples. They also feared what they would not believe.
