Verses 3, 4 and 9 mention the mystery that is hidden in God. The mystery is the purpose of God to remove all differences between Jews and Gentiles and put them together in one body. God called this one body of believers the church. At first the gospel went to the Jews only, but then God sent Paul to bring the gospel to the Gentiles. I am very happy that God included Gentiles in the church, because I am not a Jew. The mystery about the church was given by the Spirit of God to Paul only to write in the Bible. Paul teaches us how we, the church, should behave together. The principalities and powers in verse 10 are the angels, who watch you and me. They see how God has put us together in the church. The angels are learning the wisdom of God by watching His love and care for the church. They see that we have access to come and talk to the Lord Jesus at any time. In verses 13-19, Paul prays for the Ephesians that through the Spirit they may understand the great love of Christ and our glorious salvation. We believers today enjoy the same love and care and fellowship because we are part of the same church as the Ephesians. The church will be giving glory to God through all eternity.
