THE OBJECTS OF, ARE

God. John 14:1¹Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. (John 14:1).

Christ. John 6:29²⁹Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. (John 6:29). Acts 20:21²¹Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. (Acts 20:21).

Writings of Moses. John 5:46⁴⁶For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. (John 5:46). Acts 24:14¹⁴But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets: (Acts 24:14).

Writings of the prophets. 2 Chr. 20:20²⁰And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper. Promises of God. Rom. 4:21²¹And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. (Romans 4:21). Heb. 11:13¹³These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. (Hebrews 11:13).

IN CHRIST, IS

The gift of God. Rom. 12:3³For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. (Romans 12:3). Eph. 2:8⁸For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: (Ephesians 2:8). Eph. 6:23²³Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 6:23). Phi. 1:29.

The work of God. Acts 11:21²¹And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord. (Acts 11:21). 1 Cor. 2:5⁵That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. (1 Corinthians 2:5).

Precious. 2 Peter 1:1¹Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: (2 Peter 1:1).

Most holy. Jude 20²⁰But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, (Jude 20).

Fruitful. 1 The. 1:3.

Accompanied by repentance. Mark 1:15¹⁵And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. (Mark 1:15). Luke 24:47⁴⁷And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. (Luke 24:47).

Followed by conversion. Acts 11:21²¹And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord. (Acts 11:21).

Christ is the Author and Finisher of. Heb. 12:2²Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:2)

Is a gift of the Holy Ghost. 1 Cor. 12:9⁹To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; (1 Corinthians 12:9).

The Scriptures designed to produce. John 20:31³¹But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. (John 20:31). 2 Tim. 3:15¹⁵And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. (2 Timothy 3:15).

Preaching designed to produce. John 17:20²⁰Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; (John 17:20). Acts 8:12¹²But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. (Acts 8:12). Rom. 10:14¹⁴How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? (Romans 10:14). 15, 17. 1 Cor. 3:5⁵Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? (1 Corinthians 3:5).

THROUGH IT IS

Remission of sins. Acts 10:43⁴³To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. (Acts 10:43). Rom. 3:25²⁵Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; (Romans 3:25)

Justification. Acts 13:39³⁹And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. (Acts 13:39). Rom. 3:21, 22, 28, 30²¹But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; ²²Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: (Romans 3:21‑22)
²⁸Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. (Romans 3:28)
³⁰Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith. (Romans 3:30). Rom. 5:1¹Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: (Romans 5:1). Gal. 2:16¹⁶Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. (Galatians 2:16).

Salvation. Mar. 16:16. Acts 16:31³¹And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. (Acts 16:31).

Sanctification. Acts 15:9⁹And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. (Acts 15:9). Acts 26:18¹⁸To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. (Acts 26:18).

Spiritual light. John 12:36, 46³⁶While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them. (John 12:36)
⁴⁶I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. (John 12:46).

Spiritual life. John 20:31³¹But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. (John 20:31). Gal. 2:20²⁰I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20)

Eternal life. John 3:15, 16¹⁵That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. ¹⁶For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:15‑16). John 6:40, 47⁴⁰And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. (John 6:40)
⁴⁷Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. (John 6:47).

Rest in heaven. Heb. 4:3³For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. (Hebrews 4:3).

Edification. 1 Tim. 1:4⁴Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do. (1 Timothy 1:4). Jude 20²⁰But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, (Jude 20).

Preservation. 1 Peter 1:5⁵Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. (1 Peter 1:5).

Adoption. John 1:12¹²But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: (John 1:12). Gal. 3:26²⁶For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:26).

Access to God. Rom. 5:2²By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. (Romans 5:2). Eph. 3:12¹²In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him. (Ephesians 3:12).

Inheritance of the promises. Gal. 3:22²²But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. (Galatians 3:22). Heb. 6:12¹²That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. (Hebrews 6:12).

The gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 11:15-17¹⁵And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. ¹⁶Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. ¹⁷Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God? (Acts 11:15‑17). Gal. 3:14¹⁴That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. (Galatians 3:14). Eph. 1:13¹³In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, (Ephesians 1:13).

Impossible to please God without. Heb. 11:6⁶But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6).

Justification is by, to be of grace. Rom. 4:16¹⁶Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, (Romans 4:16).

Essential to the profitable reception of the gospel. Heb. 4:2²For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. (Hebrews 4:2).

Necessary in the Christian warfare. 1 Tim. 1:18, 19¹⁸This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare; ¹⁹Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck: (1 Timothy 1:18‑19). 1 Tim. 6:12¹²Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. (1 Timothy 6:12).

The gospel effectual in those who have. 1 Thess. 2:13¹³For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe. (1 Thessalonians 2:13).

Excludes self-justification. Rom. 10:3, 4³For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. ⁴For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. (Romans 10:3‑4).

Excludes boasting. Rom. 3:27²⁷Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. (Romans 3:27).

Works by love. Gal. 5:6⁶For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love. (Galatians 5:6). 1 Tim. 1:5⁵Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: (1 Timothy 1:5). Phile. 5.

PRODUCES

Hope. Rom. 5:2²By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. (Romans 5:2).

Joy. Acts 16:34³⁴And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house. (Acts 16:34). 1 Peter 1:8⁸Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: (1 Peter 1:8). Peace. Rom. 15:13¹³Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. (Romans 15:13).

Confidence. Isa. 28:16¹⁶Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste. (Isaiah 28:16), with 1 Peter 2:6⁶Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. (1 Peter 2:6).

Boldness in preaching. Psa. 116:10¹⁰I believed, therefore have I spoken: I was greatly afflicted: (Psalm 116:10), with 2 Cor. 4:13¹³We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; (2 Corinthians 4:13).

Christ is precious to those having. 1 Peter 2:7⁷Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, (1 Peter 2:7).

Christ dwells in the heart by. Eph. 3:17¹⁷That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, (Ephesians 3:17).

Necessary in prayer. Matt. 21:22²²And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. (Matthew 21:22). James 1:6⁶But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. (James 1:6).

Those who are not Christ's have not. John 10:26, 27²⁶But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. ²⁷My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: (John 10:26‑27).

An evidence of the new birth. 1 John. 5:1.

BE IT SAINTS

Live. Gal. 2:20²⁰I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20).

Stand. Rom. 11:20²⁰Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear: (Romans 11:20). 2 Cor. 1:24²⁴Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand. (2 Corinthians 1:24).

Walk. Rom. 4:12¹²And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised. (Romans 4:12). 2 Cor. 5:7⁷(For we walk by faith, not by sight:) (2 Corinthians 5:7).

Obtain a good report. Heb. 11:2²For by it the elders obtained a good report. (Hebrews 11:2).

Overcome the world. 1 John. 5:4, 5.

Resist the devil. 1 Peter 5:9⁹Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. (1 Peter 5:9).

Overcome the devil. Eph. 6:16¹⁶Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. (Ephesians 6:16).

Are supported. Psa. 27:13¹³I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. (Psalm 27:13). 1 Tim. 4:10¹⁰For therefore we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe. (1 Timothy 4:10).

Saints die in. Heb. 11:13¹³These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. (Hebrews 11:13).

SAINTS SHOULD

Be sincere in. 1 Tim. 1:5⁵Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: (1 Timothy 1:5). 2 Tim. 1:5⁵When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. (2 Timothy 1:5).

Abound in. 2 Cor. 8:7⁷Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also. (2 Corinthians 8:7).

Continue in. Acts 14:22²²Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God. (Acts 14:22). Col. 1:23²³If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister; (Colossians 1:23).

Be strong in. Rom. 4:20-24²⁰He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; ²¹And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. ²²And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. ²³Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; ²⁴But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; (Romans 4:20‑24).

Stand fast in. 1 Cor. 16:13¹³Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong. (1 Corinthians 16:13).

Be grounded and settled in. Col. 1:23²³If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister; (Colossians 1:23).

Hold, with a good conscience. 1 Tim. 1:19¹⁹Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck: (1 Timothy 1:19).

Pray for the increase of. Luke 17:5⁵And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith. (Luke 17:5).

Have full assurance of. 2 Tim. 1:12¹²For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. (2 Timothy 1:12). Heb. 10:22²²Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. (Hebrews 10:22).

True, evidenced by its fruits. James 2:21-25²¹Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? ²²Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? ²³And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. ²⁴Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. ²⁵Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? (James 2:21‑25).

Without fruits, is dead. James 2:17, 20, 26¹⁷Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. (James 2:17)
²⁰But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? (James 2:20)
²⁶For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. (James 2:26).

Examine whether you be in. 2 Cor. 13:5⁵Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? (2 Corinthians 13:5).

All difficulties overcome by. Matt. 17:20²⁰And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. (Matthew 17:20). Matt. 21:21²¹Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. (Matthew 21:21). Mar. 9:23.

All things should be done in. Rom. 14:22²²Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth. (Romans 14:22).

Whatsoever is not of, is sin. Rom. 14:23²³And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin. (Romans 14:23).

Often tried by affliction. 1 Peter 1:6, 7⁶Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: ⁷That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: (1 Peter 1:6‑7).

Trial of, works patience. James 1:3³Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. (James 1:3).

The wicked often profess. Acts 8:13, 21¹³Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done. (Acts 8:13)
²¹Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. (Acts 8:21).

The wicked destitute of. John 10:25²⁵Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me. (John 10:25). John 12:37³⁷But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him: (John 12:37). Acts 19:9⁹But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus. (Acts 19:9). 2 The. 3:2.

Protection of, illustrated. A shield, Eph. 6:16¹⁶Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. (Ephesians 6:16). A breastplate, 1 Thess. 5:8⁸But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. (1 Thessalonians 5:8).

Exemplified. Caleb, Num. 13:30³⁰And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it. (Numbers 13:30). Job, Job 19:25²⁵For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: (Job 19:25). Shadrach, &c. Dan. 3:17¹⁷If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. (Daniel 3:17). Daniel, Dan. 6:10, 23¹⁰Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime. ²³Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God. (Daniel 6:23). Woman who a sinner, Luke 7:50⁵⁰And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace. (Luke 7:50). Nathanael, John 1:49⁴⁹Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel. (John 1:49). Samaritans, John 4:39³⁹And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did. (John 4:39). Martha, John 11:27²⁷She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world. (John 11:27). The Disciples, John 16:30³⁰Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God. (John 16:30). Thomas, John 20:28²⁸And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. (John 20:28).
