Fragment: Nearness to Christ

“Be of good cheer” (Matt. 14:27²⁷But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. (Matthew 14:27)). “Preach the word” (2 Tim. 4:2²Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. (2 Timothy 4:2)).

A person who goes to preach in a heathen place knows what he has to do. His difficulty is not nearly so great as that of a Christian with the world that professes to be Christian. If not very near to Christ, a man cannot discern what is the world and what is of Christ.
