Ex. 9:18,24• 18Behold, to morrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as hath not been in Egypt since the foundation thereof even until now.
24So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.

Josh. 10:11• 11And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Beth-horon, that the Lord cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword. 13Therefore thus saith the Lord God; I will even rend it with a stormy wind in my fury; and there shall be an overflowing shower in mine anger, and great hailstones in my fury to consume it.

The hail, in smiting plagues and sweeping judgments (Isa. 28:17). (Job 38-42:6 by S. Ridout)
This thought is emphasized in the hail, the frozen drops of rain. Those gentle showers which water the earth that it may bring forth its fruits, turned into death-dealing wrath! For a Christ-rejecting world there is laid up “wrath against the day of wrath,” of which the hail is a figure (Ex. 9:22; Hag. 2:17; Ps. 18:12; Rev. 16:21). And yet these fearful judgments—God’s “strange work” —will tell forth the glory of a righteousness, inflexible as well as full of love. “Praise Him... fire and hail; snow and vapors; stormy wind fulfilling His word” (Ps. 148:8). (Job 38-42:6 by S. Ridout)
