One of the divisions of the Holy Land under the Romans. Luke 3:1¹Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene, (Luke 3:1).

Comprised the whole of the ancient kingdom of Judah. 1 Kin. 12:21 -24.

CALLED

The land of Judah. Matt. 2:6⁶And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel. (Matthew 2:6).

Jewry. Dan. 5:13¹³Then was Daniel brought in before the king. And the king spake and said unto Daniel, Art thou that Daniel, which art of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Jewry? (Daniel 5:13), with John 7:1¹After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him. (John 7:1).

A mountainous district. Luke 1:39: 65.

Parts of, desert. Matt. 3:1¹In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, (Matthew 3:1). Acts 8:26²⁶And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert. (Acts 8:26).

Jerusalem the capital of. Matt. 4:25²⁵And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judea, and from beyond Jordan. (Matthew 4:25).

TOWNS OF;

Arimathea. Matt. 27:57⁵⁷When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple: (Matthew 27:57). John 19:38³⁸And after this Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus. (John 19:38).

Azotus or Ashdod. Acts 8:40⁴⁰But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Caesarea. (Acts 8:40).

Bethany. John 11:1, 18¹Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. (John 11:1)
¹⁸Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off: (John 11:18).

Bethlehem. Matt. 2:1, 6, 16¹Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, (Matthew 2:1)

¹⁶Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men. (Matthew 2:16).

Bethphage. Matt. 21:1¹And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples, (Matthew 21:1).

Emmaus. Luke 24:13¹³And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs. (Luke 24:13).

Ephraim. John 11:54⁵⁴Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples. (John 11:54).

Gaza. Acts 8:26²⁶And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert. (Acts 8:26).

Jericho. Luke 10:30³⁰And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. (Luke 10:30). Luke 19:1¹And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. (Luke 19:1).

Joppa. Acts 9:36³⁶Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did. (Acts 9:36). Acts 10:5, 8⁵And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter: (Acts 10:5)
⁸And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa. (Acts 10:8).

Lydda. Acts 9:32, 35, 38³²And it came to pass, as Peter passed throughout all quarters, he came down also to the saints which dwelt at Lydda. (Acts 9:32)
³⁵And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him, and turned to the Lord. (Acts 9:35)
³⁸And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them. (Acts 9:38).

John the Baptist preached in. Matt. 3:1¹In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, (Matthew 3:1).

OUR LORD

Born in. Matt. 2:1, 5, 6¹Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, (Matthew 2:1)
⁵And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judea: for thus it is written by the prophet, ⁶And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel. (Matthew 2:5‑6).

Tempted in the wilderness of. Matt. 4:1¹Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. (Matthew 4:1).

Frequently visited. John 11:7⁷Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judea again. (John 11:7).

Often left, to escape persecution. John 4:1-3¹When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John, ²(Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,) ³He left Judea, and departed again into Galilee. (John 4:1‑3).

Several Christian churches in. Acts 9:31³¹Then had the churches rest throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied. (Acts 9:31). 1 Thess. 2:14¹⁴For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews: (1 Thessalonians 2:14).
