Listen from:
Before the Lord Jesus entered upon His public ministry, He was tested. Adam was tested in the Garden of Eden and failed. Here, the Lord was tempted for 40 days in the wilderness and didn’t fail. Each time, the Lord quoted the Bible to defeat the devil. That is the only way we, too, can overcome temptation.
As a boy, the Lord Jesus was in the synagogue on the Sabbath days to hear the Word of God. Perhaps your parents brought you to Sunday school so that you could learn about the Lord Jesus when you were young. If we learn to memorize verses from the Bible, we can later use them to witness to others who have never heard about God’s wonderful salvation.
The people in the synagogue wondered at the gracious words of the Lord Jesus, but they rejected Him. They were reminded that of old, God had blessing for a Gentile widow and for a Gentile leper. This made these Jewish people very angry, so that they thrust Him out of the city and tried to cast Him down over the brow of a hill.
Isn’t it strange to find a man with an unclean devil in a synagogue? And, these devils knew who the Lord Jesus was — “the Holy One of God.” And yet, God “made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21).
