This is, I doubt not, the true reading which bears the graphic stamp of Mark’s style. The vulgar text "and commanded him to be called" is due to that love of assimilating the Gospels which in the copyists answers to the love of harmonies among divines, both to the no small marring of the Divine perfection of the Gospels. Compare {vi 25729}{/vi}, where "He commanded," which is right in that Gospel.
