A pastor is a shepherd — one who provides pasturage and generally cares for the lambs and sheep of the flock of
God,
not
his
own, which is an unscriptural thought. The gift is a wider one than that of teacher (
Eph. 4:11

And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; (Ephesians 4:11)
), and includes much general godly tare that would not come under the head of the latter. General directions will be found in 1 Peter 5, to which all pastors would do well to take special heed.
