In school you feel a whole lot safer if your best friend is strong and tall. Perhaps this is the feeling that the psalmist is trying to portray in our verse. With the Lord Jesus as our Friend we find protection in the day of trouble. He is stronger and higher than anyone else and no one can bother us while we stay close to Him.
