Is part of His character. Psa. 7:9⁹Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins. (Psalm 7:9). Psa. 116:5⁵Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful. (Psalm 116:5). Psa. 119:137¹³⁷TZADDI. Righteous art thou, O Lord, and upright are thy judgments. (Psalm 119:137).

DESCRIBED AS

Very high. Psa. 71:19¹⁹Thy righteousness also, O God, is very high, who hast done great things: O God, who is like unto thee! (Psalm 71:19).

Abundant. Psa. 48:10¹⁰According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness. (Psalm 48:10).

Beyond computation. Psa. 71:15¹⁵My mouth shall show forth thy righteousness and thy salvation all the day; for I know not the numbers thereof. (Psalm 71:15).

Everlasting. Psa. 119:142¹⁴²Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth. (Psalm 119:142).

Enduring forever. Psa. 111:3³His work is honorable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever. (Psalm 111:3).

The habitation of His throne. Psa. 97:2²Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne. (Psalm 97:2).

Christ acknowledged. John 17:25²⁵O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. (John 17:25).

Christ committed His cause to. 1 Peter 2:23²³Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: (1 Peter 2:23).

Angels acknowledge. Rev. 16:5⁵And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus. (Revelation 16:5).

His testimonies. Psa. 119:138, 144¹³⁸Thy testimonies that thou hast commanded are righteous and very faithful. (Psalm 119:138)
¹⁴⁴The righteousness of thy testimonies is everlasting: give me understanding, and I shall live. (Psalm 119:144).

His commandments. Deut. 4:8⁸And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day? (Deuteronomy 4:8), Psa. 119:172¹⁷²My tongue shall speak of thy word: for all thy commandments are righteousness. (Psalm 119:172).

His judgments. Psa. 19:9⁹The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. (Psalm 19:9). Psa. 119:7, 62⁷I will praise thee with uprightness of heart, when I shall have learned thy righteous judgments. (Psalm 119:7)
⁶²At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of thy righteous judgments. (Psalm 119:62).

His word. Psa. 119:123¹²³Mine eyes fail for thy salvation, and for the word of thy righteousness. (Psalm 119:123).

His ways. Psa. 145:17¹⁷The Lord is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works. (Psalm 145:17).

His acts. Judg. 5:11¹¹They that are delivered from the noise of archers in the places of drawing water, there shall they rehearse the righteous acts of the Lord, even the righteous acts toward the inhabitants of his villages in Israel: then shall the people of the Lord go down to the gates. (Judges 5:11). 1 Sam. 12:7⁷Now therefore stand still, that I may reason with you before the Lord of all the righteous acts of the Lord, which he did to you and to your fathers. (1 Samuel 12:7).

His government. Psa. 96:13¹³Before the Lord: for he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth: he shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with his truth. (Psalm 96:13). Psa. 98:9⁹Before the Lord; for he cometh to judge the earth: with righteousness shall he judge the world, and the people with equity. (Psalm 98:9).

The gospel. Psa. 85:10¹⁰Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other. (Psalm 85:10), with Rom. 3:25, 26²⁵Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; ²⁶To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. (Romans 3:25‑26).

The final judgment. Acts 17:31³¹Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. (Acts 17:31).

The punishment of the wicked. Rom. 2:5⁵But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; (Romans 2:5). 2 Thess. 1:6⁶Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; (2 Thessalonians 1:6). Rev. 16:7⁷And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments. (Revelation 16:7). Rev. 19:2²For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. (Revelation 19:2).

Shown to the posterity of saints. Psa. 103:17¹⁷But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children; (Psalm 103:17).

Shown openly before the heathen. Psa. 98:2²The Lord hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly showed in the sight of the heathen. (Psalm 98:2).

God delights in the exercise of. Jer. 9:24²⁴But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord. (Jeremiah 9:24).

The heavens shall declare. Psa. 50:6⁶And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah. (Psalm 50:6). Psa. 97:6⁶The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory. (Psalm 97:6).

SAINTS

Ascribe, to Him. Job 36:3³I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker. (Job 36:3). Dan. 9:7⁷O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries whither thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against thee. (Daniel 9:7).

Acknowledge, in His dealings. Ezr. 9:15¹⁵O Lord God of Israel, thou art righteous: for we remain yet escaped, as it is this day: behold, we are before thee in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before thee because of this. (Ezra 9:15).

Acknowledge, though the wicked prosper. Jer. 12:1¹Righteous art thou, O Lord, when I plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments: Wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? wherefore are all they happy that deal very treacherously? (Jeremiah 12:1), with Psa. 73:12-17¹²Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches. ¹³Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency. ¹⁴For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning. ¹⁵If I say, I will speak thus; behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children. ¹⁶When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me; ¹⁷Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end. (Psalm 73:12‑17).

Recognize, in the fulfillment of His promises. Neh. 9:8⁸And foundest his heart faithful before thee, and madest a covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Jebusites, and the Girgashites, to give it, I say, to his seed, and hast performed thy words; for thou art righteous: (Nehemiah 9:8).

Confident of beholding. Mic. 7:9⁹I will bear the indignation of the Lord, because I have sinned against him, until he plead my cause, and execute judgment for me: he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness. (Micah 7:9).

Upheld by. Isa. 41:10¹⁰Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. (Isaiah 41:10).

Do not conceal. Psa. 40:10¹⁰I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation. (Psalm 40:10).

Mention, only. Psa. 71:16¹⁶I will go in the strength of the Lord God: I will make mention of thy righteousness, even of thine only. (Psalm 71:16).

Talk of. Psa. 35:28²⁸And my tongue shall speak of thy righteousness and of thy praise all the day long. (Psalm 35:28). Psa. 71:15, 24¹⁵My mouth shall show forth thy righteousness and thy salvation all the day; for I know not the numbers thereof. (Psalm 71:15)
²⁴My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness all the day long: for they are confounded, for they are brought unto shame, that seek my hurt. (Psalm 71:24).

Declare to others. Psa. 22:31³¹They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this. (Psalm 22:31).

Magnify. Psa. 7:17¹⁷I will praise the Lord according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the Lord most high. (Psalm 7:17). Psa. 51:14¹⁴Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness. (Psalm 51:14). Psa. 145:7⁷They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness, and shall sing of thy righteousness. (Psalm 145:7).

Plead, in prayer. Psa. 143:11¹¹Quicken me, O Lord, for thy name's sake: for thy righteousness' sake bring my soul out of trouble. (Psalm 143:11). Dan. 9:16¹⁶O Lord, according to all thy righteousness, I beseech thee, let thine anger and thy fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain: because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy people are become a reproach to all that are about us. (Daniel 9:16).

Leads Him to love righteousness. Psa. 11:7⁷For the righteous Lord loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright. (Psalm 11:7).

WE SHOULD PRAY

To be led in. Psa. 5:8⁸Lead me, O Lord, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face. (Psalm 5:8).

To be quickened in. Psa. 119:40⁴⁰Behold, I have longed after thy precepts: quicken me in thy righteousness. (Psalm 119:40).

To be delivered in. Psa. 31:1¹<<To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.>> In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness. (Psalm 31:1). Psa. 71:2²Deliver me in thy righteousness, and cause me to escape: incline thine ear unto me, and save me. (Psalm 71:2).

To be answered in. Psa. 143:1¹<<A Psalm of David.>> Hear my prayer, O Lord, give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness. (Psalm 143:1).

To be judged according to. Psa. 35:24²⁴Judge me, O Lord my God, according to thy righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me. (Psalm 35:24).

For its continued manifestation. Psa. 36:10¹⁰O continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart. (Psalm 36:10).

His care and defense of His people designed to teach. Mic. 6:4, 5⁴For I brought thee up out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of servants; and I sent before thee Moses, Aaron, and Miriam. ⁵O my people, remember now what Balak king of Moab consulted, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him from Shittim unto Gilgal; that ye may know the righteousness of the Lord. (Micah 6:4‑5).

The wicked have no interest in. Psa. 69:27²⁷Add iniquity unto their iniquity: and let them not come into thy righteousness. (Psalm 69:27).
