We have followed in measure the counsels of God concerning Christ and the Church, the mystery. These counsels rest at last in the riches of His glory (Eph. 1:1818The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, (Ephesians 1:18)). Redemption is the riches of His grace (Eph. 1:77In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; (Ephesians 1:7)). “The unsearchable riches of Christ” are the riches of His glory in which the Church will be seen with Him. Glory is excellence in manifestation.
These reflections concerning the counsels of God in regard to Christ and the Church have their origin in many years of happy meditation in anticipation of their fulfillment. Surely, we, as the children of God, bound for the Father’s house of many mansions, can cry with full hearts, “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” Rev. 22:2020He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. (Revelation 22:20).
To be unlinked from chains and fetters frail,
Like bark unmoored from earth’s receding shore,
To have the old familiar lights grow pale;
All death behind, all life before.
So reaches forth the heart to Thee, to Thee,
Beyond decay and what is changing here;
Dimly the spirit even now can see,
Her great sure bliss is drawing brightly near.
