Children, let’s put on our imagination caps for a few minutes. Let’s pretend that we are hearing Hailee and Bethany talking about a new dollhouse of Bethany’s ...
At school one day, Bethany is excitedly telling her friend Hailee about her new dollhouse. She finishes with, “You have to come see it! It even has lights
that work!”
So, that afternoon Hailee goes to Bethany’s house and Bethany shows her a beautiful big dollhouse. Bethany points out details in room after room. “See this staircase? Look at the pretty wallpaper! And see? I can turn the lights on and off using this tiny switch! Look at all the little furniture ... it’s so pretty and it fits in all the rooms just right!” Hailee is impressed!
Then Hailee asks Bethany, “Did your Dad put this dollhouse together?”
“Oh no!” replies Bethany. “You won’t believe what happened. One night my family and I were all sitting here in the living room and there was a storm going on. Suddenly there was a big bang and all the lights went out. When the lights came back on, we couldn’t believe our eyes! This dollhouse was sitting here in the middle of the living room, just
like this!
“Oh, come on, Bethany,” Hailee says. “That’s impossible! In fact, it’s ridiculous! Do you think I’m going to believe that the wallpaper hung itself, the lights all connected to the electricity and all the darling furniture just appeared out of nowhere? Now I feel like I can’t trust anything you say!”
“Well, I am telling you the truth!” says Bethany, with a disgusted look on her face.
It so happens that Bethany’s father is in the next room and he can hardly believe what his daughter is saying. He comes into the room where the girls are talking and speaks to his daughter. “Bethany! What are you saying? Why are you lying to your friend and making up this strange story about your dollhouse? You know very well that your mother and I spent a lot of time in the last several months working on this dollhouse. I made many trips to the store and spent a lot of money so it could be ready for you to enjoy by your ninth birthday. It is wrong of you to lie like this! Instead of telling your friend the truth and giving us the credit we deserve, you are telling her nonsense.”
Children, this story has been written to teach a lesson. Many of you are going to school and hearing talk just like Bethany’s lie, about God’s wonderful creation. There is the Big Bang theory of evolution and other teachings that deny that God is the Creator of the whole universe, including the beautiful world we live in. The Bible is the living Word of God and it only tells the truth. Do you know what the very first verse of the Bible says? Here it is: “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth”
(Genesis 1:11In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. (Genesis 1:1)).
What beauty there is in all of God’s creation! It is beautiful even though, for now, creation’s beauty is spoiled in many ways because of sin. If you read the story of the creation in Genesis, you will read that God created nearly everything (not including man) in the world by simply speaking it into being. It grieves Him that so many people don’t believe this. Usually this is because they don’t want God in their lives and don’t want to think about having to answer to Him someday for their sins. Through the different theories of evolution, God doesn’t get the glory He deserves for His beautiful work in creating everything we see as well as what we have never seen.
The next time you see a beautiful flower or watch a bird fly or play on the sand and then jump the waves in the ocean or taste your favorite food, remember it is God who made all these things for you to enjoy because He loves you so much. The same loving God sent His Son, the Lord Jesus, to die on Calvary’s cross for your sins, so that someday you can be with Him in an even more beautiful place called heaven for all eternity!
