istakes — we all make them, and we should all try to learn from them.
But there is one mistake that no one has ever learned from. This is the mistake those make who never come to repentance and faith in Christ.
All during their lives on earth, God waited for them to renounce their sins that He might forgive them and bring them back to Himself. But this they never did.
They found what the prophet Isaiah calls, “The life of their hand,” that is, they found their satisfaction in what they could do themselves — the work of their own hands — and not in the God who made them and holds their very breath in His hands. The verse goes on to say, “They were not grieved” (Isaiah 57:1010Thou art wearied in the greatness of thy way; yet saidst thou not, There is no hope: thou hast found the life of thine hand; therefore thou wast not grieved. (Isaiah 57:10)). It didn’t bother them that they left God out of their lives. They saw no need for forgiveness and no need of repentance. When those that leave God out of their lives leave this world, what will be left for them but the barrenness and suffering of a lost eternity? “These shall go away into everlasting punishment” (Matthew 25:4646And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. (Matthew 25:46)).
True Deliverance From Sin
God can forgive every crime, every trespass, every sin. He can wash away every stain, but He does not ignore the sins of those who never turn to Him in repentance.
Certainly sin can be looked at as a terrible mistake. It is a terrible mistake to steal, to lie, to kill, to hate, to cheat, to live as if God doesn’t exist. Sin is a mistake that always produces a bitter state of unrest and emptiness in the soul. This is so because God is dissatisfied with sin. He is so dissatisfied with it that He hates it, and He has promised that those who continue in their sins will one day be punished in hell.
Don’t be satisfied with the life of your own hands when those hands are stained with the sin that God hates!
Instead, look to the Lord Jesus by faith and find the life that comes through Him. “I am the way, the truth, and the life,” the Lord Jesus said; “no man cometh to the Father but by Me” (John 14:66Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6)). Our souls were made to live through faith in the God who made us. Apart from God we will never find rest or satisfaction for our souls.
Not until a soul is forgiven can they begin to live for God. It is only through faith in Christ that we receive the forgiveness of sins. “In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins” (Ephesians 1:77In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; (Ephesians 1:7)).
Won’t you come to the Lord Jesus Christ so that you can find life through His name?
