(1) Sea of (John 6:1; 21:1¹After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias. (John 6:1)
¹After these things Jesus showed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise showed he himself. (John 21:1)). [GENNESARET.] (2) A town of Galilee on the west shore of Lake Gennesaret or Sea of Galilee, founded by Herod Antipas, A. D. 16-22, and named in honor of the emperor Tiberius. It seems to have imparted its name to the lake or sea. Once noted for its learning and architectural beauty, but now the miserable village of Tabariyeh (John 6:1,23; 21:1¹After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias. (John 6:1)
