97. Abiding in Christ

“H. W.,” Loanhead, Edinburgh. John 15:7⁷If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. (John 15:7), teaches us, that if we simply abide in Christ—if we live in habitual dependence upon Him—in a clinging, trusting attitude of soul, the very treasury of heaven is open to us. “Ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” Wondrous privilege! Would that we realized it more fully! You may also read in connection with the above passage, 1 John 3:21-22²¹Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. ²²And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. (1 John 3:21‑22): “Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of Him, because we keep His commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.” If we walk in communion with God, we shall not ask amiss to consume it on our lusts. Our prayers will be the breathing of His Spirit in our hearts, and they will come up before His throne in all the fragrance of the name of Jesus, and return to us in copious showers of blessing. These things are easily said, and easily written; but oh, for more of their power!
