Are You a Dead Sea?

There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty. The liberal soul shall be made fat, and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.
I looked upon a sea and lo ‘twas dead,
Although by Hermon’s snows and Jordan fed.
How came a fate so dire? The tale’s soon told:
All that it got it kept and fast did hold.
All tributary streams found there a grave.
Because this sea received and never gave.
Oh, sea that’s dead! teach me to know and feel
That selfish grasp and greed my doom shall seal,
And Lord! help me how best myself to give
That I may others bless and like Thee live.
