Before I was afflicted I went astray.  .  .  .  It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn Thy statutes.
“Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless, afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.” Hebrews 12:1111Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. (Hebrews 12:11). David in our verse today realized God had passed him through a great trial so that he might learn God’s ways. He was exercised about the trial and it brought blessing in his life. The same is true for us. If, when we pass through trial, we are before the Lord about it in earnest prayer, He will bring blessing out of it. But if we just go on as if nothing has changed, then we will miss the real reason why God allowed the trial in the first place.
