Compassion and Sympathy of Christ, the.

Necessary to His priest's office. Heb. 5:2²Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity. (Hebrews 5:2), with verse 7.

MANIFESTED FOR THE

Weary and heavy-laden. Matt. 11:28-30²⁸Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. ²⁹Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. ³⁰For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. (Matthew 11:28‑30).

Weak in faith. Isa. 40:11¹¹He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young. (Isaiah 40:11). Isa, 42:3, with Matt. 12:20²⁰A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory. (Matthew 12:20).

Tempted. Heb. 2:18¹⁸For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succor them that are tempted. (Hebrews 2:18).

Afflicted. Luke 7:13¹³And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. (Luke 7:13). John 11:33, 35³³When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled, (John 11:33)
³⁵Jesus wept. (John 11:35).

Diseased. Matt. 14:14¹⁴And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick. (Matthew 14:14). Mar. 1:41. Poor. Mar. 8:2.

Perishing sinners. Matt. 9:36³⁶But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. (Matthew 9:36). Luke 19:41⁴¹And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, (Luke 19:41). John 3:16¹⁶For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16).

An encouragement to prayer. Heb. 4:15¹⁵For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. (Hebrews 4:15).
