Believing God. Mar. 11:22. John 14:11, 12¹¹Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. ¹²Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. (John 14:11‑12).

Fearing God. Ecc. 12:13 Pet. 2:17.

Loving God. Deut. 6:5⁵And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. (Deuteronomy 6:5). Mat. 22:37.

Following God. Eph. 5:1¹Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; (Ephesians 5:1). 1 Peter 1:15, 16¹⁵But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; ¹⁶Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. (1 Peter 1:15‑16).

Obeying God. Luke 1:6⁶And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. (Luke 1:6). 1 John. 5:3.

Rejoicing in God. Psa. 33:1¹Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright. (Psalm 33:1). Hab. 3:18¹⁸Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. (Habakkuk 3:18).

Believing in Christ. John 6:29²⁹Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. (John 6:29). 1 John 3:23²³And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. (1 John 3:23).

Loving Christ. John 21:15¹⁵So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. (John 21:15). 1 Peter 1:7, 8⁷That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: ⁸Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: (1 Peter 1:7‑8).

Following the example of Christ. John 13:15¹⁵For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. (John 13:15). 1 Peter 2:21-24²¹For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: ²²Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: ²³Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: ²⁴Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. (1 Peter 2:21‑24).

Obeying Christ. John 14:21²¹He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. (John 14:21). John. 15:14.

LIVING

To Christ. Rom. 14:8⁸For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. (Romans 14:8). 2 Cor. 5:15¹⁵And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. (2 Corinthians 5:15).

Unto righteousness. Mic. 6:8⁸He hath showed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? (Micah 6:8). Rom. 6:18¹⁸Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. (Romans 6:18). 1 Peter 2:24²⁴Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. (1 Peter 2:24).

Soberly righteously, and godly Titus 2:12¹²Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; (Titus 2:12).

WALKING

Honestly. 1 Thess. 4:12¹²That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing. (1 Thessalonians 4:12).

Worthy of God. 1 The. 2:12.

Worthy of the Lord. Col. 1:10¹⁰That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; (Colossians 1:10).

In the Spirit. Gal. 5:25²⁵If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. (Galatians 5:25).

After the Spirit. Rom. 8:1¹There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. (Romans 8:1).

In newness of life. Rom. 6:4⁴Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. (Romans 6:4).

Worthy of our vocation. Eph. 4:1¹I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, (Ephesians 4:1).

As children of light. Eph. 5:8⁸For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (Ephesians 5:8).

Rejoicing in Christ. Phi. 3:1. Phi. 4:4.

Loving one another. John 15:12¹²This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. (John 15:12). Rom. 12:10¹⁰Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another; (Romans 12:10). 1 Cor. 13. Eph. 5:2²And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savor. (Ephesians 5:2). Heb. 13:1¹Let brotherly love continue. (Hebrews 13:1).

Striving for the faith. Phi. 1:27. Jude 3³Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. (Jude 3).

Putting away all sin. 1 Cor. 5:7⁷Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: (1 Corinthians 5:7). Heb. 12:1¹Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, (Hebrews 12:1).

Abstaining from all appearance of evil. 1 Thess. 5:22²²Abstain from all appearance of evil. (1 Thessalonians 5:22).

Perfecting holiness. Matt. 5:48⁴⁸Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. (Matthew 5:48). 2. Cor. 7:1. 2 Tim. 3:17¹⁷That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. (2 Timothy 3:17).

Hating defilement. Jude 23²³And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. (Jude 23).

Following after that which is good. Phi. 4:8. 1 The. 5:15. 1 Tim. 6:11¹¹But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. (1 Timothy 6:11).

Overcoming the world. 1 John. 5:4, 5.

Adorning the gospel. Matt. 5:16¹⁶Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 5:16). Tit. 2:10¹⁰Not purloining, but showing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things. (Titus 2:10).

Showing a good example. 1 Tim. 4:12¹²Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. (1 Timothy 4:12). 1 Peter 2:12¹²Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. (1 Peter 2:12). Titus 2:7⁷In all things showing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine showing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, (Titus 2:7).

Abounding in the work of the Lord. 1 Cor. 15:58⁵⁸Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. (1 Corinthians 15:58). 2 Cor. 8:7⁷Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also. (2 Corinthians 8:7). 1 Thess. 4:1¹Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more. (1 Thessalonians 4:1).

Shunning the wicked. Psa. 1:1¹Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. (Psalm 1:1), 2 Thess. 3:6⁶Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. (2 Thessalonians 3:6).

Controlling the body. 1 Cor. 9:27²⁷But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. (1 Corinthians 9:27). Col. 3:5⁵Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: (Colossians 3:5).

Subduing the temper. Eph. 4:26²⁶Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: (Ephesians 4:26). James 1:19¹⁹Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: (James 1:19).

Submitting to injuries. Mat 5:39-41³⁹But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. ⁴⁰And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also. ⁴¹And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. (Matthew 5:39‑41). 1 Cor. 6:7⁷Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded? (1 Corinthians 6:7).

Forgiving injuries. Matt. 6:14¹⁴For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: (Matthew 6:14). Rom. 12:20²⁰Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. (Romans 12:20).

Living peaceably with all. Rom. 12:18¹⁸If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. (Romans 12:18). Heb. 12:14¹⁴Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: (Hebrews 12:14).

Visiting the afflicted. Matt. 25:36³⁶Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. (Matthew 25:36). James 1:27²⁷Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. (James 1:27).

Doing as we would be done by. Matt. 7:12¹²Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. (Matthew 7:12). Luke 6:31³¹And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. (Luke 6:31).

Sympathizing with others. Gal. 6:2²Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2). 1 The. 5:14.

Honoring others. Psa. 15:4⁴In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoreth them that fear the Lord. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not. (Psalm 15:4). Rom. 12:10¹⁰Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another; (Romans 12:10).

Fulfilling domestic duties. Eph. 6:1-8¹Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. ²Honor thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) ³That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. ⁴And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. ⁵Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; ⁶Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; ⁷With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: ⁸Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free. (Ephesians 6:1‑8). 1 Peter 3:1-7¹Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; ²While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. ³Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; ⁴But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. ⁵For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: ⁶Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement. ⁷Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honor unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. (1 Peter 3:1‑7).

Submitting to Authorities. Rom. 13:1-7¹Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. ²Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. ³For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: ⁴For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. ⁵Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. ⁶For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. ⁷Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor. (Romans 13:1‑7).

Being liberal to others. Acts 20:35³⁵I have showed you all things, how that so laboring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. (Acts 20:35). Rom. 12:13¹³Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. (Romans 12:13).

Being contented. Phi. 4:11. Heb. 13:5⁵Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. (Hebrews 13:5).

Blessedness of maintaining. Psa. 1:1-3¹Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. ²But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. ³And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. (Psalm 1:1‑3). Psa. 19:9-11⁹The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. ¹⁰More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. ¹¹Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward. (Psalm 19:9‑11). Psa. 50:23²³Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I show the salvation of God. (Psalm 50:23). Matt. 5:3-12³Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ⁴Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. ⁵Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. ⁶Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. ⁷Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. ⁸Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. ⁹Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. ¹⁰Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ¹¹Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. ¹²Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. (Matthew 5:3‑12). John 15:10¹⁰If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. (John 15:10). John 7:17¹⁷If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. (John 7:17).
