Verse 11 tells us, “The just shall live by faith.” Who are the just? The just are those who have repented and believed that Jesus died because of their sin. The just believe Jesus rose from the dead and has given to them the gift of eternal life. This life is pure and does not need the law of Moses to improve it. The eternal life Jesus gives is holy and just. It is a life that cannot sin. If you have eternal life, you are just. You can live by faith because the death of Christ has removed the law from us. The Galatian believers had listened to the false Jewish teachers who were bewitching them with lies of the devil. The false teachers were forcing the Jewish and Gentile Christians to practice the law of Moses, even though it is impossible for anyone to keep the law. Paul explains to the Galatians about Abraham, who was justified by faith and not by keeping the commandments. The Galatians could not be saved by keeping the law of Moses, and they could not live a holy life by keeping the law. The purpose of the law was to be like a schoolteacher that taught us about our sin. The law taught us that we are bad and need a Savior. Our Savior is Jesus Christ.
