High Places.

God sometimes worshipped on. 1 Sam. 9:12¹²And they answered them, and said, He is; behold, he is before you: make haste now, for he came to day to the city; for there is a sacrifice of the people to day in the high place: (1 Samuel 9:12). 1 Kin. 3:2, 4. 2 Chr. 33:17¹⁷Nevertheless the people did sacrifice still in the high places, yet unto the Lord their God only. (2 Chronicles 33:17).

Aven. Hos. 10:8⁸The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us. (Hosea 10:8).

Built, in all their streets. Ezek. 16:24, 31²⁴That thou hast also built unto thee an eminent place, and hast made thee an high place in every street. (Ezekiel 16:24)
³¹In that thou buildest thine eminent place in the head of every way, and makest thine high place in every street; and hast not been as an harlot, in that thou scornest hire; (Ezekiel 16:31).

Condemned for building. Ezek. 16:23-35²³And it came to pass after all thy wickedness, (woe, woe unto thee! saith the Lord God;) ²⁴That thou hast also built unto thee an eminent place, and hast made thee an high place in every street. ²⁵Thou hast built thy high place at every head of the way, and hast made thy beauty to be abhorred, and hast opened thy feet to every one that passed by, and multiplied thy whoredoms. ²⁶Thou hast also committed fornication with the Egyptians thy neighbors, great of flesh; and hast increased thy whoredoms, to provoke me to anger. ²⁷Behold, therefore I have stretched out my hand over thee, and have diminished thine ordinary food, and delivered thee unto the will of them that hate thee, the daughters of the Philistines, which are ashamed of thy lewd way. ²⁸Thou hast played the whore also with the Assyrians, because thou wast unsatiable; yea, thou hast played the harlot with them, and yet couldest not be satisfied. ²⁹Thou hast moreover multiplied thy fornication in the land of Canaan unto Chaldea; and yet thou wast not satisfied herewith. ³⁰How weak is thine heart, saith the Lord God, seeing thou doest all these things, the work of an imperious whorish woman; ³¹In that thou buildest thine eminent place in the head of every way, and makest thine high place in every street; and hast not been as an harlot, in that thou scornest hire; ³²But as a wife that committeth adultery, which taketh strangers instead of her husband! ³³They give gifts to all whores: but thou givest thy gifts to all thy lovers, and hirest them, that they may come unto thee on every side for thy whoredom. ³⁴And the contrary is in thee from other women in thy whoredoms, whereas none followeth thee to commit whoredoms: and in that thou givest a reward, and no reward is given unto thee, therefore thou art contrary. ³⁵Wherefore, O harlot, hear the word of the Lord: (Ezekiel 16:23‑35).

Provoked God with. 1 Kin. 14:22, 23. Psa. 78:58⁵⁸For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images. (Psalm 78:58).

Threatened with destruction of. Lev. 26:30³⁰And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you. (Leviticus 26:30).

Jehoshaphat. 2 Chr. 17:6⁶And his heart was lifted up in the ways of the Lord: moreover he took away the high places and groves out of Judah. (2 Chronicles 17:6).

Hezekiah. 2 Kin. 18:4. 2 Chr. 31:1¹Now when all this was finished, all Israel that were present went out to the cities of Judah, and brake the images in pieces, and cut down the groves, and threw down the high places and the altars out of all Judah and Benjamin, in Ephraim also and Manasseh, until they had utterly destroyed them all. Then all the children of Israel returned, every man to his possession, into their own cities. (2 Chronicles 31:1).
