56. O Lord, How Blest Our Journey

7,6.
by M. Bowley
1
O Lord, how blest our journey,

Though here on earth we roam,

Who find in Abba’s favor

Our spirit’s present home:

For where Thou now art sitting

By faith we’ve found repose,

Free to look up to heaven,

Since our blest Head arose.
“Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul.” (1 Peter 2:11)
“But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 3:18)
2
In spirit there already;

Soon we ourselves shall be

In soul and body perfect,

All glorified with Thee:

Thy Father’s love sustains us

Along the thorny way,

Thy Father’s house, the dwelling

Made ready for that day.
“That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.” (Ephesians 5:27)
“And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.” (Romans 8:17)
“In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:2)
3
The Comforter, now present,

Assures us of Thy love;

He is the blessèd earnest

Of glory there above:

The river of Thy pleasure

Is what sustains us now,

Till Thy new name’s imprinted

On every sinless brow.
“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever. Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.” (John 14:16-18)
“In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise. Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.” (Ephesians 1:13-14)
“They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.” (Psalm 36:8)
“And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.” (Revelation 22:4)
4
Lord, we await Thy glory;

We have no home but there,

Where the adopted family

With us Thy joy shall share.

No place can fully please us

Where Thou, O Lord, art not;

In Thee, and with Thee, ever

Is found, by grace, our lot.
“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.” (Titus 2:13)
“Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul.” (1 Peter 2:11)
“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.” (Romans 8:15)
“Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” (1 Thessalonians 4:17)
