SELF-RENUNCIATION
“Men shall be lovers of self."
The Holy Spirit has no fellowship with self. The heart is not delivered from it until the Spirit has guided our thoughts to Jesus. The effectual presence of the Spirit crucifies egotism and gives freedom of thought about ourselves... it occupies us with but one object—Jesus.
Low at Thy feet, Lord Jesus,
This is the place for me;
Here I have learned deep lessons:
Truth that has set me free.
Free from myself, Lord Jesus,
Free from the ways of men;
Chains of thought that have bound me
Never can bind me again.
None but Thyself, Lord Jesus,
Conquered this wayward will,
But for Thy love constraining,
I had been wayward still.
