Thou sayest, I am rich . . . and knowest not that thou art . . . poor.
What a contrast from yesterday’s “rich” folk. In our verse today, the church had become so self-satisfied, so materialistic, and so spiritually proud that they actually went around bragging about it and saying that they didn’t need anything. And all the time God looked at them and said that they were poor and didn’t even know it. They were spiritually poor, bad witnesses to the grace of God, self-contented. May our hearts not become so self-satisfied that we leave God out of our lives.
