Rock of Ages! cleft for sin,

Grace hath hid us safe within!

Where the water and the blood,

From Thy riven side which flowed,

Are of sin the double cure;

Cleansing from its guilt and power.
“And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.” (1 Corinthians 10:4)
“Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience.” (Ephesians 2:2)
“But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.” (John 19:34)
“Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.” (Romans 5:9)

Not the labor of our hands

Could fulfill the law’s demands;

Could our zeal no respite know,

Could our tears forever flow,

Naught for sin could e’er atone

But Thy blood and Thine alone!
“Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:9)
“Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” (Romans 3:20)
“For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.” (Leviticus 17:11)
“And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.” (Hebrews 9:22)

Found by Thee before we sought,

Unto Thee in mercy brought;

We have Thee for righteousness,

From Thy fullness grace on grace:

Thou hast washed us in Thy blood,

Made us live and live to God.
“What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.” (Luke 15:4-5)
“But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.” (Romans 10:20)
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” (1 Peter 1:3)
“But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.” (1 Corinthians 1:30)
“And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.” (John 1:16)
“And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood.” (Revelation 1:5)
“For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.” (Galatians 2:19)

While we draw this fleeting breath,

If our eyes are closed in death,

When we soar to worlds unknown,

Sit with Thee upon Thy throne:

Thou our joy shalt be in heaven,

Who for us Thyself hast given.
“To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.” (Revelation 3:21)
“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)
“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.” (Ephesians 5:25)
