USED FOR

Seasoning food. Job 6:6⁶Can that which is unsavory be eaten without salt? or is there any taste in the white of an egg? (Job 6:6).

Seasoning sacrifices. Lev. 2:13¹³And every oblation of thy meat offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt. (Leviticus 2:13). Ezek. 43:24²⁴And thou shalt offer them before the Lord, and the priests shall cast salt upon them, and they shall offer them up for a burnt offering unto the Lord. (Ezekiel 43:24).

Ratifying covenants. Num. 18:19¹⁹All the heave offerings of the holy things, which the children of Israel offer unto the Lord, have I given thee, and thy sons and thy daughters with thee, by a statute for ever: it is a covenant of salt for ever before the Lord unto thee and to thy seed with thee. (Numbers 18:19). 2 Chr. 13:5⁵Ought ye not to know that the Lord God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt? (2 Chronicles 13:5).

Strengthening new-born infants. Ezek. 16:4⁴And as for thy nativity, in the day thou wast born thy navel was not cut, neither wast thou washed in water to supple thee; thou wast not salted at all, nor swaddled at all. (Ezekiel 16:4).

Partaking of another's, a bond of friendship. Ezra 4:14¹⁴Now because we have maintenance from the king's palace, and it was not meet for us to see the king's dishonor, therefore have we sent and certified the king; (Ezra 4:14). (marg.)

Lost its savor when exposed to the air. Matt. 5:13¹³Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. (Matthew 5:13). Mar. 9:50.

Josh. 11:8⁸And the Lord delivered them into the hand of Israel, who smote them, and chased them unto great Zidon, and unto Misrephoth-maim, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they smote them, until they left them none remaining. In springs. James 3:12¹²Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh. (James 3:12).

Near the Dead Sea. Num. 34:12¹²And the border shall go down to Jordan, and the goings out of it shall be at the salt sea: this shall be your land with the coasts thereof round about. (Numbers 34:12). Deut. 3:17¹⁷The plain also, and Jordan, and the coast thereof, from Chinnereth even unto the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, under Ashdoth-pisgah eastward. (Deuteronomy 3:17).

Places where it abounded barren and unfruitful. Jer. 17:6⁶For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited. (Jeremiah 17:6). Ezek. 47:11¹¹But the miry places thereof and the marishes thereof shall not be healed; they shall be given to salt. (Ezekiel 47:11).

The valley of, celebrated for victories. 2 Sam. 8:13¹³And David gat him a name when he returned from smiting of the Syrians in the valley of salt, being eighteen thousand men. (2 Samuel 8:13). 2 Kin. 14:7. 1 Chron. 18:12¹²Moreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah slew of the Edomites in the valley of salt eighteen thousand. (1 Chronicles 18:12).

MIRACLES CONNECTED WITH;

Lot's wife turned into a pillar of. Gen. 19:26²⁶But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. (Genesis 19:26).

Elisha healed the bad water with. 1 Kin. 2:21.

Places sown with, to denote perpetual desolation. Judg. 9:45⁴⁵And Abimelech fought against the city all that day; and he took the city, and slew the people that was therein, and beat down the city, and sowed it with salt. (Judges 9:45).

Liberally afforded to the Jews after the captivity. Ezra 6:9⁹And that which they have need of, both young bullocks, and rams, and lambs, for the burnt offerings of the God of heaven, wheat, salt, wine, and oil, according to the appointment of the priests which are at Jerusalem, let it be given them day by day without fail: (Ezra 6:9). Ezra 7:22²²Unto an hundred talents of silver, and to an hundred measures of wheat, and to an hundred baths of wine, and to an hundred baths of oil, and salt without prescribing how much. (Ezra 7:22).
