338. Since Thou, the Everlasting God

C.M.
by P. Doddridge
1
Since Thou, the everlasting God,

Our Father art become;

Jesus, our Guardian and our Friend,

And heaven our final home:
“Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.” (Isaiah 40:28)
“But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith.” (Romans 16:26)
“Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.” (John 20:17)
“Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy.” (Jude 24)
“Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.” (John 15:14)
“In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” (John 14:2-3)

We welcome all Thy sovereign will,

For all that will is love;

And when we know not what Thou dost,

We wait the light above.
“Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.” (John 13:7)

Thy gracious love, in all our need,

Shall heavenly light impart;

And be our theme of endless praise

When all things else depart.
