337. The God Who Dwells Above, We Call

C.M.
1
The God who dwells above, we call

Our Father and our Friend;

And, blessèd thought! His children all

Shall see Him in the end.
“Who is like unto the Lord our God, who dwelleth on high.” (Psalm 113:5)
“<<A Song of degrees.>> Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.” (Psalm 123:1)
“Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.” (John 20:17)
“And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” (2 Corinthians 6:18)
2
Though now dispersed, the day will come

When He who made us His

Will call us hence, and take us home

To see Him as He is.
3
Though now unknown, we then shall be

The sons of God confessed,

Those who disown us then shall see

How richly we are blest.
4
Then let us, brethren, while on earth,

With foes and strangers mixed,

Be mindful of our heavenly birth,

Our thoughts on glory fixed.
5
That we should glorify Him here

Our Father’s purpose is:

Whene’er the Savior shall appear

He’ll fully own us His.
