Concise Bible Dictionary:

In the Old Testament there are five Hebrew words so translated, signifying “to be right, proper, fit,” which do not call for remark. In the New Testament are
1. δεῖ, often translated “must” and “ought.” It “behooved” the father to make merry when the prodigal son returned (Luke 15:3232It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found. (Luke 15:32)). Sinners received the punishment that was “fit” (Rom. 1:2727And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. (Romans 1:27)).
2. ἱκαυόω. The Christian is made “fit” to share the portion of the saints in light (Col. 1:1212Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: (Colossians 1:12)).
3. εὔχρηστος. By the Christian separating himself from the vessels to dishonor, he becomes a vessel to honor, sanctified, “serviceable” to the Master (2 Tim. 2:2121If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work. (2 Timothy 2:21)).
