Elect in verse 2 means “chosen by God.” The three Persons of God are working together for people to be saved. God the Father knew about you before creation and chose you in His Son to be saved. Then the Spirit sanctified you to prepare you to hear the gospel. We need to obey the gospel message and believe. Then the blood of God’s Son, Jesus Christ, cleans you from the guilt of your sin. We have been chosen to have spiritual life that we cannot lose. This salvation of our souls is kept for us by the power of God. This life gives us a lively (or, living) hope because we have faith to know we are going to heaven. Our faith about this living hope will be tested. Do you really believe Jesus is coming? Are you waiting and watching for Him? True faith will be rewarded with praise, honor and glory with Jesus Christ when He comes in His glory. The prophets in the Old Testament wrote about the sufferings of Christ and the glories that should follow when He comes back to the earth to be the king. The angels are interested to know how you are part of God’s plans for the future. After we are saved, we should be careful what we think about and be obedient to the will of God. We should be holy in all our actions like God is holy. It was necessary for the precious blood of Christ to be shed so we could be redeemed back into relationship with God. Our natural life will die like grass one day, but our spiritual life and the Word of the Lord endure forever.
