327. Lord Jesus! Are We One With Thee

1
Lord Jesus! are we one with Thee?

Oh height! Oh depth of love!

And crucified and dead with Thee,

Now one in heaven above.
“For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.” (1 Corinthians 12:12)
“For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.” (Ephesians 5:31-32)
“May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height.” (Ephesians 3:18)
“Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin. Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him.” (Romans 6:6-8)

Such was Thy grace, that for our sake

Thou didst from heaven come down;

With us of flesh and blood partake,

And make our guilt Thine own.
“For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.” (2 Corinthians 8:9)
“For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.” (John 6:38)
“Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil.” (Hebrews 2:14)
3
Our sins, our guilt, in love divine,

Confessed and borne by Thee;

The gall, the curse, the wrath were Thine,

To set Thy ransomed free.
“Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders. Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.” (Matthew 27:3-4)
“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” (1 Peter 2:24)
4
Ascended now, in glory bright,

Life-giving Head Thou art;

Nor life, nor death, nor depth, nor height,

Thy saints and Thee can part.
“And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.” (Acts 1:9)
“And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.” (Colossians 2:19)
“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come. Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)
5
And soon shall come that glorious day,

When, seated on Thy throne,

Thou shalt to wondering worlds display

That we with Thee are one.
“That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.” (John 17:21)
