(fire king). (1) An idol introduced into Samaria and worshipped with the cruel rites of Molech (2 Kings 17:31³¹And the Avites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burnt their children in fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim. (2 Kings 17:31)). (2) Son and murderer of Sennacherib, king of Assyria (2 Kings 19:37³⁷And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword: and they escaped into the land of Armenia. And Esar-haddon his son reigned in his stead. (2 Kings 19:37); 2 Chron. 32:21²¹And the Lord sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valor, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria.
