(Num. 29:12‑38)
as the duty of every day required.
Heb. the matter of theday in his day.
This expression of unity was not produced by common agreement but through simple subjection to the Word of God. “They kept also the feast of tabernacles, as it is written”(Ezra 3:4). (Gathered As One Man to Jerusalem - Ezra 3:4 by N. Simon)
The feast of tabernacles was a figure of millennial joy (Lev. 23:40). Israel was to rejoice before the Lord their God seven days. To human eyes looking at their desolate condition it might have seemed a mockery for these poor returned captives to be keeping a joyful feast. But faith is "the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen," and thus brings the future into present realization. (The Book of Ezra: Restoration From Babylon: Ezra 3:1-7 by E. Dennett)
