Hatred to Christ.

Is without cause. Psa. 69:4⁴They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I took not away. (Psalm 69:4). With John 15:25²⁵But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause. (John 15:25).

Is on account of His testimony against the world. John 7:7⁷The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil. (John 7:7).

INVOLVES

Hatred to His Father. John 15:23, 24²³He that hateth me hateth my Father also. ²⁴If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father. (John 15:23‑24)

Hatred to His people. John 15:18¹⁸If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. (John 15:18).

Punishment of. Psa. 2:2, 9²The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, (Psalm 2:2)
⁹Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. (Psalm 2:9). Psa. 21:8⁸Thine hand shall find out all thine enemies: thy right hand shall find out those that hate thee. (Psalm 21:8).

No escape for those who persevere in. 1 Cor. 15:25²⁵For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. (1 Corinthians 15:25). Heb. 10:29-31²⁹Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? ³⁰For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. ³¹It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. (Hebrews 10:29‑31).

Illustrated. Luke 19:12-14, 17¹²He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. ¹³And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. ¹⁴But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us. (Luke 19:12‑14)
¹⁷And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities. (Luke 19:17).

Exemplified. Chief Priests, &c. Matt. 27:1, 2¹When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death: ²And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor. (Matthew 27:1‑2). Luke 22:5⁵And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money. (Luke 22:5). Jews, Matt. 27:22, 23²²Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified. ²³And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified. (Matthew 27:22‑23). Scribes, &c. Mark 11:18¹⁸And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine. (Mark 11:18). Luke 11:53, 54⁵³And as he said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things: ⁵⁴Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him. (Luke 11:53‑54).
