"I Know I Shall Be Lost."

An aged man was called upon by a young clergyman who had just come to the parish, and he said, “Ah! don’t spend your time talking with me.” “Why?” said the young minister. “Its no use talking to me; I am eighty years old now. When I was but twenty years of age there was a revival in our village, and almost everybody else gave their heart to God; I resisted, and I have never had a deep, serious impression since that time.” Said the minister, “Shall I pray with you?” “Oh, you may pray, if you like to. I told you that years ago that matter was settled, when I rejected the Holy Spirit.” The pastor knelt down and prayed. The man was afterward taken sick, grew worse and worse, until his closing hour came, and his last words were, “I know I shall be lost.”
