The doctrine of reward is very clearly taught in the New Testament, not indeed as a motivethat Christ Himself alone can be — but as an encouragement. Reward, in Scripture, is always an encouragement to those who, having from higher motives entered into God’s way, are suffering shame and persecution therefore. (His Questions by W.T.P. Wolston)
“Ye which have followed Me... shall sit,” etc. They had found their motive in Himself — and they would find their reward according to their devotedness. (His Questions by W.T.P. Wolston)
The regeneration means that new state of things that shall be brought in at the coming of Christ. The washing of regeneration now is in view of that state; that is, it is really a new condition, only not now brought in. It is only testimony; it is the washing; it is the word of God, and that which belongs to the word of God connected with it that supposes a new state of things; but it will be only displayed then. (His Questions by W.T.P. Wolston)
They are now cheered by the assurance that in the blessed time of the regeneration, when the Lord will work a grand change in this world (for as He regenerates a sinner, so will He, as it were, regenerate the world), their work and suffering for His name will not be forgotten of Him. (Remarks on Matthew 19 by W. Kelly)
It is a glorious destiny reserved for the twelve apostles during the reign of Christ over the earth. A similar glory is designed for other saints of God, as we read in 1 Cor. 6:2: "Know ye not that the saints shall judge the world?" (Remarks on Matthew 19 by W. Kelly)
