pillars.
A mighty angel comes down from heaven, who appears to be the Lord Himself. (article #56689)
Here then, I think, it was no mere creature, but the Creator Himself, who took the form of an angel. It may be too the Lord retreating, if one may so say, from all that would have linked Him manifestly and directly with His people, and this for a very solemn reason. (Lectures on Revelation 10 by W. Kelly)
And as before (in order to distinguish Him particularly from all others) He was engaged with the incense at the golden altar; so here we find He was "clothed with a cloud" — the badge of Jehovah's glory; "and the rainbow [was] over his head," that is, the pledge of God's unchanging covenant with creation. "His face [was] as it were the sun." The sun is ever the symbol of supreme glory in rule, and the face of this angel is said to be like the sun. So it was on the holy mount (Matt. 17:2), and when John saw his Lord again at Patmos. (Rev. 1:16.) "His feet as pillars of fire" united, it would seem, the solidity of the "pillar" and the thorough final judgment that is so constantly conveyed by "fire." (Lectures on Revelation 10 by W. Kelly)
It forms an important parenthesis, that comes in between the sixth and seventh trumpets, just as the sealing chapter (7) came in between the sixth and seventh seals: so orderly is the Apocalypse. (Lectures on Revelation 10 by W. Kelly)
Mighty Angel: Christ asserting His claim over the earth. (Revelation 10 Symbols by A.H. Burton)
Cloud: Sign of Jehovah’s presence (Ex. 13:21; Isa. 4:5; Ezek. 10:4; Matt. 17:5). (Revelation 10 Symbols by A.H. Burton)
Rainbow: (See Rev. 4:3). (Revelation 10 Symbols by A.H. Burton)
Sun: Supreme sovereign glory (Psa. 136:8-9). (Revelation 10 Symbols by A.H. Burton)
Feet as Pillars of Fire: Firmness of discriminating judgment. (Revelation 10 Symbols by A.H. Burton)
