Mr. Baxter remarks, It is indeed interesting to compare, on Scripture authority, Adam as the root of sin and death to all, with CHRIST, who is to all true Christians the root of holiness and life.
 Men, between Adam and Moses, when there was no question of a law, as there was both before and after that interval, died just the same-sin reigned. (Romans 5:12-21 by J.N. Darby)

Or "according to." "Sinned after" is not the sense here. It refers to Hos. 6.7, "They, like Adam, have transgressed the covenant." this of Israel. But they who had no law did not. The point here is the form or character in or with which anything happens; that which gives it its character.
