The Evangelist: Volume 2 (New Series)
THE book of Revelation is the glory, not of
the bosom of the Father
(
John 1:11
11
He came unto his own, and his own received him not. (John 1:11)
), but of the throne of God. (
Revelation 1:14
14
His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; (Revelation 1:14)
.) It is the effulgence, not of Him who lay in the one place, but of Him who is to inherit the other.... If the
bosom
have comforted us, may I not say, the
throne
may now elevate us―if we stand in
grace
we may learn
judgment
.
The gospel by John conducts us to the Father’s house; our path there ends, as the path of children in that home of love. But the Apocalypse by John gives us the action that clears the earth for the kingdom and the glory, and gets the golden city ready; and our path here ends as the path of
heirs
in that place of glory. For both are ours―the joys of children, and the dignity of heirs; the home of the Father, and the throne of the Son.”
